SCHOOL LUNCH GOES VEGGIE

The Physicans Commitee for Responsible Medicine announced its Golden Carrot Awards for the best school lunches. The winner: a private school in California that's all vegetarian with fresh fruit platters and a salad bar with raw and steamed veggies. In fact, the top 3 winners were vegetarian schools. One even grows its own vegetables.

I'm not sure I'd want an all-veggie school lunch (how 'bout them proteins?) But it's a long way from the "French toast sticks" listed as a main dish on my daughter's lunch menu (I still can't believe that!).

My kids would starve at that school. ;-)

Off topic - I stumbled on this study about blogging - who are the bloggers and what are we reading about ... I can't get the link to work right in this comment so you might have to cut and paste but it's at www.pewtrusts.org/ideas/ideas_item.cfm?content_item_id=3491&content_type_id=8&page=8&issue=10&issue_name=Society%20and%20the%20Internet&name=Grantee%20Reports&source=google It's an interesting article and very current - builds on what you were posting last week. Don't know anything about the source.

Intersting stuff. I had lunch with my son for the first time yesterday at his cafeteria and I have to say I was flabbergasted (spelling please?). It's easy to see our epidemic when you look at the schools from the inside out.

You've gotta be kidding me.

Mommy --

Thanks for the link to the Pew Trusts study. Good information.

TOAST STICKS Jenny, I kid you not. I think the other option that day was a hamburger.

Tomorrow's menu: tacos or pancakes with OJ, jello and milk. Not a veggie in sight (well, the toppings on the tacos, maybe).

And this is one of the top school districts in the country!

My daughter was SO excited about buying lunch her first year... but I think we may start brown-bagging it.

My son's school has french toast sticks on the menu for Friday. We're packing that day.

Great link.

My little guy would be in heaven at a veggie school. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but I rarely eat meat unless I'm cooking it for my husband, who is definitely adamently carnivorous. Imagine my surprise and delight at a recent trip to the ballpark when my son spurned the hotdog Daddy was tring to seduce him with, and instead ate nearly all of my veggie burger. I gloated about that one for a week.

Great link on the anatomy of bloggers, too. Thanks for posting that one!
